el phantasma de vulgarity

While the whole country was reeling under the after affects of the multiplex strike, me and mes ami were having a blast with world cinema and horror movies of all genres and languages. Over a period of two months, we watched movies in french,lebanese,spanish,swedish,Japanese,Korean :all subtitled. We had lots of fun trying to translate the spanish movies without subtitles to others.

So last week,when I found my roadside CD wala selling Y tu mama tambien for just 40 bucks,I was ecstasic.I called up my friends and told them that I would bring it along for our weekend sojourn at their place.I had read somewhere that its a oscar winner.

But unfortunately,I couldn't make it to their place on saturday.It rained heavily.

On sunday,I had nothing much to do,so I decided to watch it(a little) to kill time.

Imagine my horror when the very first scene that appeared on the screen seemed straight out of a xx porn.

My saintly roommate exclaimed "What's this??"With her face bearing an expression that read "Are you crazy to watch porn in broad daylight?"

"I donno" I replied, "guess its some porn with a fake title"

To my chagrin, I realised that it was not a fake (and my roommates firmly believe now that I am a desperate case,in spite of my repeatedly telling them otherwise.)

I am thankful to God though that I watched it before taking it to my friends,otherwise the drama unfurling on the screen would have had me die of embarrasement.

I don't watch a foreign movie without reading about it now.
