My country! In thy day of glory past
A beauteous halo circled round thy brow,
And worshipped as a deity thou wast.
Where is that glory, where that reverence now?
Thy eagle pinion is chained down at last,
And groveling in the lowly dust art thou:
Thy minstrel hath no wreath to weave for thee
Save the sad story of thy misery!
Well – let me dive into the depths of time,
And bring from out the ages that have rolled
A few small fragments of those wrecks sublime,
Which human eyes may never more behold;
And let the guerdon of my labour be
My fallen country! One kind wish from thee!
One of my all time favorite poems by Henri Vivian Derozio,a portugese scholar in british times who considered himself indian...always made me proud..to think a foreigner could love my country so much as to cry at its condition...I am sad to say its not the country...its the people who are making me cry now.
Patriotism seems to have become a lost word to us.We hate our own country with a vengeance equivalent to dollars made by paramount pictures.
It so happened yesterday that i overheard one of my colleagues proudly proclaiming "i just hate this country,so much pollution,so filthy,no traffic regulations...i am emigrating to US in a few years..this place is just not for me..
Well maybe its not ..single question to all such people..isn't this the same place where you grew up,the same streets you played in when you were a kid,the same roads ...weren't they dirty earlier? How come you have started noticing now?Have you outgrown your own city ,your own country...?'
No ,you must relocate ..not because the country is deplorable.Because you don't deserve it .Because you are neither sensitive enough to appreciate it not enterprising enough to work on changing it .We don't need you ..you deserve to relocate to Americas that asks for"poor, tired and huddled masses yearning to breathe free".That description fits you .

I remember the saying from the movie RDB... "No Country is perfect, you have to make it perfect"...
